Casper College Music Building Dedication

Casper College celebrated the completion of their new music building with a dedication ceremony on October 13. The new music building for the college was designed by HMS Architects in collaboration with MOA ARCHITECTURE of Denver. The 34,000 square foot facility provides the music department with an array of spaces including ten music practice rooms, three large music rehearsal spaces, ten faculty studios and a 417-seat Concert Hall. The building located at a prominent campus entrance also features an open two story lobby, music recording suite, two music classrooms and an administrative suite. The total of these spaces provides Casper College with the facilities they need to develop their music program and meet their academic mission.

St. Bernard Manor Opens

St. Bernard Manor, an elderly housing building designed by HMS Architects, held its grand opening on August 20. The opening was presided by Archbishop Aymond who blessed the building. In attendance were retired Archbishop Hughes, St Bernard Parish President Peralta, and others. The new building which has 82 units is a replacement project completed with FEMA funding for a structure that was damaged beyond repair during hurricane Katrina. The new St. Bernard Manor is yet another example of the recovery of the greater New Orleans area. The building provides much needed elderly housing for the New Orleans region. HMS Architects is also currently completing another elderly housing project for the Archdiocese of New Orleans in Metairie, which is scheduled for completion in the spring of 2014.

The new kindergarten wing at Mimosa Park Elementary School, designed by HMS Architects, is on schedule, approximately 50% constructed by Percy J Matherne Contractor.  To celebrate this milestone, and to welcome students back to school for the fall, we've compiled some of our weekly visit photographs into this video, to show off the progress so far.  Check out the video at 1:27, 2:25, and 3.26 for views of the Cafeteria, and at 4:26, and 5:22 for views of the corridor.

Thanks to St Charles Parish Public Schools and Percy J Matherne Contractor for working with us to make this building a reality for the kids.

Ochsner Kenner Railings Highlighted by Hollaender

In their June email newsletter Hollaender Railing System featured the completed Louisiana Medical Center, Kenner designed by HMS Architects for Ochsner Health Systems. As described by Hollaender, some of our exterior railing concerns included having "issues with traditional welded and painted steel systems of the past. They have observed that repainting the top rails of painted railings cost from $5 to $50 per lineal foot every three to five years. To avoid these problems HMS selected Hollaender's anodized aluminum Interna-Rail railing system with electro-coated/powder coated steel wire mesh infill panels. The anodized aluminum withstands pedestrian traffic much better than painted steel..." HMS Architects are pleased to have such a successful project featured by a manufacturer, highlighting our efforts to bring the best life cycle value to our clients.
